Thoughts of a Pessimist

Out of everything people want the most in life, the main ones come down to three things: fame, money or love.
I myself want lasting love in my life. I am a hopeless romantic. I want that passion and unconditional love and in 50 years, I want to sleep happily with the love of my life by my side.
Sure, I want money, preferably lots of it, but if all I had was my lover and a camera to capture all our sweet moments, I think I would choose that over money anyday.

But yet I am also a pessimist. I want this so bad but I’m not as delusional as many people would insist, and I am aware that this is nearly impossible. How can people stand each other for so long? One of them is doomed to be unfaithful, right? Perhaps my thoughts were influenced by the unhappy marriages I have witnessed within my family. In fact, these depressing predictions probably contribute to 70% of my daily thoughts.

What saddens me the most is that the person you may be with, whom you love and care about more than yourself could eventually be nothing to you. And all those moments and memories you wrote down or captured on a camera to which you hold on to and cherish, will also be nothing.

But (thank heavens there’s a ‘but’), every now and then my beliefs are challenged, like today. I have probably spent a total of two hours on trains today as I tend to be on and while I pass the time, I people-watch. I try to guess what their secret lives are like to which I would never know. I even use the reflections of the windows so that it’s a little less noticeable. Anywho, today I watched two elderly couples on separate trains actually looking like they love each other with the man’s arm draped around the woman’s shoulders or the other couple and how they were whispering to each other and smiling on the chair in front of me. Of course, I immediately check for rings and wallah. A combination of hope and ‘awe’ rush through me and my dreams are restored... at least for a little while.

This dress was a gift, or even a hand-me-down dress given from a relative. I immediately fell in love with it due to its vintage appeal and the fact that it resembled a dress from one of my favourite movies, Pretty Woman.
The dress came with a matching belt in the same pattern and fabric but instead I used a silk belt that I had purchased from Supre in year eight, but however I don’t recommend the store, although they are good for the basics. Unfortunately the dress was from Ireland from a brand I had never heard of, so any other items similar will be impossible for me to get *sad face*.

I'm wearing straw wedges that I absolutely love and wear all the time (which is why they appear so worn out), which were from Betts and scored for about $20.00. They have a real hippy-like feel and so they will go perfect with my outfit that I plan on wearing to a Hippy Themed party coming up. They’re also perfect for summer.

In case you couldn’t already tell, I am not much of a photographer but I was really proud of those light specs and rays that snuck in a shot :)

I'm baaaack

May I just start with the absolutely awesome fact that I now have internet! Woo. The internet tends to disappear rather quickly within this household due to a certain someone, not going to name names, who abuses the internet for online x-box and anime games. Thanks a lot, man.

I can say that I've actually missed writing on my blog, and sharing my probably very boring thoughts with the cyber universe. Secondly, I graduated and my WACE exams are finished so I can safely say, I AM DONE WITH SCHOOL. Hallelujah, raise the roof, drop it likes it’s hot, booya.

I am not sure where I am actually going to go with my life as of now, but I hope to work, get some money and really work on my blog. I had to put this hobby on hold for a while due to school commitments but it gives me so much pleasure that I can actually dedicate a lot of my time to this, and this shall become a big commitment. Don’t be fooled by my rants lately; this is still a fashion blog but also a semi (or very) personal one too.

I thought I’d share a few images of how I have spent the beginning of my freedom, which is under the sun. I could not wait for summer any longer and did not hesitate to hit the beach and get my tan on. What was even better about that day was the fact that the beach was quiet as most people were either at work or school, and I was neither. It was perfect.

I was wearing some funky vintage sunglasses that my best friend scored for two dollars from the markets and so kindly lent me. The other photos were taken right before I basically face planted the watermelon. Mmm, watermelon.

Note to self: hit the markets

I'M FREE!!#@$2rnfeirgddn

We wait for this moment from our first day of highschool. We would dream about how great it will be when homework doesn't exist to us and bullying will no longer be an issue in our daily lives. It came. I graduated from school.

It's the freedom that makes me most happy. Yes, responsibility is going to be a drag but I love that my life is now in my hands. It's the beginning and I can choose where I go from now. Not my parents, me. It sure as hell is scary but that's the thrill of it.

Unfortunately, I did exaggerate a tad bit because I still WACE exams and that keeps me form living and now I must spend my days in the library. But when it's all over, for good, I may just run away, go on a road trip and who the heck cares where I go, because the whole idea is just going.

Spring Trend #2

The second spring trend deserving a mention are matching outfits. Y'know the ones where the top is in the exact same pattern as the pants? Well, that's what I mean.
I love them. They're cute and playful and you don't just have to wear those items in an outfit but are able to mix them with other pieces! It also gives a child-like feel and makes me feel young with the innocent appearance of them.

Spring Pastels

Pastels ruling the Spring Runway

Pastels are just my favourite shades of colours. They create such a fun and soft look and are the colours of spring. They make me want to drink tea and lie in a picturesque grass field and take polaroid pictures (shake it like a polaroid picture). I can't say that word without thinking of that song.
Anywho, pastels are in and especially pastel and medium blue as colours which I'm seeing a lot of lately.

This is a gorgeous pastel green dress which I can already see myself wearing on a picnic from Ally Fashion

A pink-pastel lace dress from Forever New; they always fail to disappoint

Pastel Suede pumps from Forever 21

Spring :')

It's spring time! Well, in Australia anyway. Hayfever is prospering but yet I wouldn't want it any other way. Not to mention my birthday is coming up. But nevertheless, let's talk fashion.
I don't have any pictures at the moment and I have really been meaning to get pictures of myself and other trends but exams are my main priority and I guess that's why I haven't been posting in a while.

But just briefly, I shall just list a few of the spring trends and I'll get pictures asap.
So firstly, floral, well duh! Sundresses, hats and large sunglasses. It's fabulous. Boots and sundresses are also taking off at the moment
Pastel colours also of course
Pale/acid washed denim jackets
Rose gold
And colours: lemon, jade, orange, lilac

Myself & Plaid

Da da-da daa, da da, what you have all been waiting for. And by all I mean probably none but hay, I thought this deserved an entrance. So I thought I'd finally post a picture of myself and wallah, here I am. My friend needed a 'model' for her photography assignment and I thought I'd take advantage of this chance and wear one of the popular trends of this winter; plaid. The photographs were taken by the lovely Cass Reichenberg and my entire outfit is under one hundred dollars, my plaid blazer from Valley Girl, top from Temt, skirt from Ally Fashion and shoes from Kmart.

Too Excited

Wearing uncomfortable tight jeans, freezing at parties, getting drenched when I walk out the house, changing plans due to the crappy weather and going blind everytime a gust of wind goes by from my hair. Ugh, over it. Winter was a little exciting before but now I want summer. But I won't deny the plus of not having to shave my legs all the time :)
I just cannot wait to feel free in flowy skirts, swimming in the ocean, ROAD TRIPS!! (just a tad excited), I just cannot wait. In fact, I'm even excited just for Spring, especially as it will be my birthday. This summer will have to be the best yet. I'll be graduating from school, I'll be free. I won't have a care in the world. I'll celebrate... and I may get a little intoxicated.

If you live in the Northern Hemisphere where it is still probably quite hot, remember that when ( or if) you are cold, rugging up just to go outside, smiling at the memories of summer, I will be sunbaking on the beautiful beaches of Western Australia. Muahaha.

But I was so in-love with this winter's fashion. I will miss the blazers, the coats, pairing my boots with cute wool socks, the scarves, and the clicking sound of the heel on the pavement from my favourite booties.

Anyway, this is probably one of my most pointless posts but I just can't contain my excitement. Perhaps I'll keep you posted, with pictures, on all the lovely things I plan to do when the sun comes out.

I compare things. I constantly compare myself to others. I compare my smile, my nose, the size of my feet, my laugh, my sneeze, my handwriting, the shape of my eyebrows, my taste in music, my life. Most of the time I'm left dissappointed, and wondering, "why were they blessed with such good genes to have been given such a perfectly rounded nose.." I compare what I did on the weekend with others, what they did for new years and their life always seems so much better. I have stories to tell but they're not outrageous, crazy, stupid or extremely memorable like everyones elses.
I feel as if my youth is being ripped from under me, and don't get me wrong, I'm still extremely young, but I feel like im wasting my young years by not doing enough stupid and crazy things. What stories do I have to tell about my rebellious days? Well, I backchatted my parents. Oh, and this one time my nanna said not to scratch my mosquito bite... But I did.

Fashion is Art

Fashion is more than the clothes on your back. It's art.
Art is a world of change and expression, defining ourselves, others and promoting certain ideas. The clothes you wear and how you wear it, expresses yourself, and promotes a certain image to the world. Perhaps it's, 'I dont give a baboon's butt what you think about me, and I have more important things to worry about than fashion," or, "I care a lot about what people think about me and dress like I'm always ready to meet new people who can get me places", or even, "I'm unique".
Whether you mean to or not, the way you dress presents certain ideas about you, as art presents certain ideas about the artist. Fashion is art.

While I sat painting on a wooden board, becoming frustrated with my inability to paint straight lines and in between my thoughts of destroying it, I thought about my blog and what I could write. I love fashion, and so that's what this blog is about, and will always be out, but I decided that I would make this blog a semi-personal one too, where I will share my thoughts when I ponder the universe.

Firstly, I came to the realisation that there is only one thing that doesnt change; the fact that everything changes. Most people would have known that much longer, but perhaps I was in denial. Because when things are perfect, who would want to think about that changing? Certainly not me. It saddens me when I think that this very moment of when I type, that very moment I pushed, lets say, the 'd' key, is gone, and will never return. And what saddens me the most is that I probably won't remember those moments ever again.

And so now, I'll write down the important ones, fearing that they will eventually slip from my mind and so I'll remember those little moments of pure happiness; or so that I remember to appreciate that certain person for being in my life and all that they did; or so that when I become old I can remember those stories I couldn't wait to tell my children; or when my grandchildren ask how I met their grandfather, I can tell them clearly as if reading from a book.

So these were the thoughts that flooded into my mind while painting an image for my assignment that will most likely be thrown into a fire; a memory I don't care of keeping.

So, I'm sure you have all heard about colour-blocking (wearing different colours, usually bright, that would not have normally gone together, such as green and purple), but what about pattern-blocking?
Pattern-blocking is not necessarily a new trend, but it isn't one that I have been seeing displayed. But then again, it isn't the easiest trend. In fact, this trend is extremely difficult to recipricote.
Basically, the idea of it is to wear different patterns (well duh),  but are colours of the same colour scheme. For example, a black and white striped blouse can be paired with a black and white polka-dot skirt, as a simple outfit. In one of my earlier posts on plaid, you can also see Aria Montgomery from Pretty Little Liars pairing a striped black and white blouse with a plaid blazer. Not only a great exmaple for plaid but a great example of pattern-blocking too.
To begin I recommend simple patterns as if this trend is not done right, it can look like a disaster.
For more inspiration I have included pictures and I must say, I take my hat off to Blair Waldorf, from Gossip Girl's, stylist. Blair is always a great example to use as they per-fect the latest trends.

Monday, 5 August 2013

Well it has been a while. I only wish that I had a trend to post but it seems most of the new winter/fall trends I have already posted. But Spring is not far and I will keep my eye open for any inspiration.
But in hopes to inspire you in the meanwhile, be yourself, not what the latest trends tell you to do and dress as if the world is your catwalk.
Until soon, xoxo

One Colour

This trend is one I as a child would have carried out most days, for who at that age knew how to pair and match clothing properly? But I have seen this trend rather often lately and it has received my approval.

Splash of Neon

Neon is back! It doesn't even seem that long when neon was in and dressing as if you were from the 80's was a big trend. Looking back now that was probably the worst trend ever. Any-who, neon is in but thankfully, it doesn't mean walking around in neon tights and oversized shirts, but to be worn in splashes.
When wearing an all-black outfit, add an accessory of neon, whether it be shoes, a necklace, bag or blazer. It's very stylish and you're bound to stand out.

I would have thought plaid was for school or was a popular item of clothing for many subculture groups, I have been seeing it being worn a lot, whether it be a plaid jacket or dress. Nevertheless, you won't see me complaining. There is something about tartan and plaid that I have always liked since my 'punk' phase that I went through very briefly.

Preppy plaid cape. Love

Not sure if she is going to Constance (school from Gossip Girl) or work.
But still love the look.

Aria, my favourite of the 4 girls, pulling off 3 different patterns, one of them being plaid.
I take my hat off to the stylist for managing to pull that off.

How to wear: midi skirt

Thanks to my good friend Pinterest, I have images of examples on how to wear the new trend: midi skirts.
Pair with a sweater and boots and you have a perfect outfit for Autumn

Do it up with a pair of classic heels

Back In Time

Each decade, shorts and skirts get shorter, shirts become tighter and younger girls dress older, until it had come to the point to where clothing is barely clothing at all, but instead they appear to be denim underwear with unnecessary body parts on complete display for the world to see and slightly (emphasis on slightly) less revealing bra's (bralets).
And so then we wonder, what next? Are the 2010's going to be the new Adam and Eve style era? Will our birthday suits be the next new trend? No.
In fact, fashion is going backwards. Common trends right now are the midi skirts (skirts that reach your knee or lower). Even maxi skirts were big this summer. Blazers too are a big trend as they create a feminine but modest and sophisticated look.
It's no longer, "if you got it, flaunt it", instead it's, "less is more".

Classy is the new trend. Get amongst it.

Monday, 8 April 2013

Layering is a big trend this fall/winter. It can be a tricky trend to pull off but when mastered it looks very stylish, as well as keeping you warm on the colder days.

Above is an absolutely divine example of this trend.
So try this: buttoned up shirt, sweater, paired with a skirt or shorts and stockings. Add a coat/jacket and/or scarf. Wallah.

My favourite season, Autumn, is here, for who can not love the colours of the leaves as they change, and the other things that Autumn brings; sweaters, long socks, hot tea and cuddling. But, if you live in Perth as I do, you would have noticed that mother nature down under has not quite caught up. Nevertheless, the chilli days will come and the leaves will fall, and I will have this seasons' trends waiting here for you.
